At Moon Valley, hard work doesn't go unnoticed and all positions within the nursery offer opportunities for additional training and career advancement.This position is open to both English and Spanish speakers; qualified bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.Pay Rate: $15.00 - $16.00 per hourBenefits:401(k)Dental insuranceHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offVision insuranceKey Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Technician will be responsible for ensuring the health and quality of all nursery stock by monitoring, preventing, and managing pest and disease infestations throughout the nursery. This will include the routine use of pesticides, including herbicide, insecticide, fungicide, and miticide. All pesticide applications must be completed in adherence with the Agricultural Worker Protection Standard. Specific duties will include: Scouting for pest infestations and diseases on trees and shrubs Selecting and implementing appropriate control methods, including cultural, mechanical, and chemical control Reading and interpreting pesticide labels Mixing and applying pesticides safely and effectively Cleaning and maintaining pesticide application equipment Applying fertilizer, sun protection, and frost protection when needed Adhering to all protocols to ensure safety of coworkers and clients Assisting with other nursery duties as neededWhen pest management is not required in the yard, the IPM Technician will be expected to take on additional yard responsibilities. Examples of these may include: Trimming and pruning trees Organizing shrubs and other inventory Watering plant material Loading/unloading shipments of plantsRequirements Experience working outdoors in pest management, nursery, farming, natural resource, or landscaping industries (1 year) Experience applying pesticides strongly preferred; training will be provided for right candidate Able to lift and carry 50lbs Able to work outdoors fulltime in heat and inclement weather Able to read and write in English or SpanishKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities Familiarity with common pests of trees and shrubs preferred but not required Basic knowledge of plant biology beneficial Able to follow detailed protocols safely and efficiently Excellent time management and attention to detail Able to work independently to accomplish projects in a timely manner Comfortable calculating basic application rates of pesticides Ability to communicate in Spanish beneficial but not requiredNotice: MVN is an equal employment opportunity employer.
