Job Description:

Supervises drafting team members, for preparation of placement plans and bills of material for steel joists and/or metal deck. Coaches team members to meet or exceed performance goals assigned by Drafting Manager or Senior Drafting Supervisor. Set standards for the work, and evaluates individual performance. Ensures that team meets all schedule deadlines and supports internal departments and external customers promptly and accurately as required. Essential FunctionsPrepares work schedules and expedites work flow in order to meet customers' expectations and shop work schedules.Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness and conformance to original drawings.Ensures that the drawing layouts and checking meet all schedule deadlines.Screens new projects coming to the team.Examines documents such as blueprints, drawings, change orders and specifications to verify completeness and accuracy of data according to architect's drawing.Confers with document originators to resolve discrepancies and compiles required changes to documents.Reviews and helps to resolve field problems, and provides customer support.Trains new drafting personnel; assists subordinates in performing duties.Checks any special designs with engineer; checks work of others for accuracy and completeness.Reviews and depicts special loading conditions or requirements. Notifies Project Management or Sales of adds, deducts, or other discrepancies between sales contract and drawings.Sees that layout has been updated per customers' instructions using approved drawings.Maintains related files; prepares requests for reproduction of documents; posts changes to computerized or manual control records; releases documents and notifies affected departments.Maintains job file so status of job is readily available.Creates bills of material and erection drawings; prepares layout drawings.Motivates and trains employees; plans assignments; directs work; performs performance reviews; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, co-workers and supervisors.Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor.Associates Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year college or technical school plus five (5) years drafting experience in steel construction; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, Steel Joist Institute (SJI) and/or Steel Deck Institute specifications, governmental regulations, drawings and job specifications.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively with customers, internal and external.
