License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Level
1 trauma experience, ICU experience in a 600 bed teaching facility
Description: Must have level 1 trauma experience. 50-mile radius
rule applies. Candidates must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to
acceptance, with two attempts allowed. Travel teams must have their
own vehicles. Natural hair color and no facial piercings are
required. Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing. A pass/fail
exam will take place on the first day of orientation. All RNs will
be expected to complete a sims lab for Foley catheter insertion and
central line dressing changes. This is mandatory for all travelers.
Nurses are expected to be competent in maintaining a sterile field.
Candidates indicating they are not competent in either area may not
be a good fit. In addition to the sims lab, nurses will also
undergo training related to lifts, restraints, and wound care. Unit
consists of SICU, MICU, and Trauma ICU with 40 beds per unit and
120 beds total. RNs are required to read and interpret their own
telemetry strips. ICU travelers may be required to float among all
ICU areas as well as MedSurg/Tele units. Weekend shifts consist of
three total shifts every four weeks. Holiday work will be scheduled
based on core staff rotation. Shifts are 12 hours from 7 AM to 7
PM, with self-scheduling possible. Uniform color is navy. Common
patient diagnoses include sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, and various types
of trauma cases. Bedside procedures include bronchoscopy,
tracheostomy care, and hemodialysis catheter placements. The
hospital can cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment.
