Job Objective(s):In a High-Tech Insulating Glass (IG) manufacturing facility, the QM (Quality Manager) builds strong relationships with employees, customers and suppliers, analyzing quality and working together to improve the supply chain.The QM assures that a reliable product, meeting the customers specifications, is delivered.To help the plant meet customer requirements consistently, and to improve the plants profitability, the QM maintains a system for quality assurance, champions continuous improvement, manages projects, facilitates groups, and works collaboratively with employees at all levels.The QMs performance is measured by his/her ability to lead the plant in efforts that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost, or decrease the plants risk in these areas.The QM accomplishes this by moving projects forward, using quality and analytical skills to identify and tackle opportunities, using technical expertise to understand equipment capabilities and issues, using interpersonal, facilitation, and teaching skills to mold those involved into a successful project team.As a member of the Plant Managers Staff, the QM shares responsibility with other managers for setting the plants vision and performance metrics, establishing clear expectations supported by training, and holding employees and departments accountable for their performance and work process.The QM completes additional duties as requested by other managers within the plant, the division headquarters, and may assist other facilities.Required Education/ExperienceBachelors degree: or 5 plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Responsibilities and Duties - Essential Job FunctionsRepresent Company to Customers and SuppliersoEstablish relationships that build trust, openness, and collaboration.Visit customers and suppliers in person.oServe as the primary point of contact regarding product quality.oConverse technically about quality issues and the processes involved in manufacturing the product.oHold suppliers to a standard for continuous improvement and quality assurance that matches the company internal efforts.Provide tracking data.Conduct annual supplier audits.Establish and Maintain a System for Quality AssuranceoProvide clear direction and vision to the plant in the area of quality.oContinue to establish and maintain a plant-wide system of visual controls.oWork with production to set standards, parameters, and procedures to build quality into the process.Support clear expectations and standards whenever possible.oMaintain a recordkeeping system to track employee quality training and the results of quality checks.oAnalyze variability to identify processes that are out of control or in need of improvement.Champion Continuous ImprovementoContinue to transition the plant away from quality control auditing to a reliable system for quality assurance.oIdentify opportunities for improvement.Analyze data.Observe work processes.Discuss possible areas for improvement with employees, supervisors, managers, and customers.Calculate Cost of Quality, including cost avoidance, such as safety hazards and re-ordering.Present identified improvement areas to managers.Gain agreement on targets.oEstablish the scope of continuous improvement efforts.Determine whether to launch kaizen events or CI projects.oCollaborate with other departments to launch events and/or projects in their departments.Provide facilitation.Involve employees from all levels.Establish expectations for participation.Train employees in the skills needed for continuous improvement.oManage projects effectively.Identify scope, resources needed, measurements of success, milestones.Coordinate people.Use tools effectively.Keep projects on track.oLead change through resistance.Work through resistance, whether it is personal, technical, resource allocationto achieve positive change.Manage Direct ReportsoProvide focus and direction.Set objectives and goals for the Quality Department that align with site-wide goals.Measurable should be set in safety, quality, delivery, and cost, and in applicable subsets.oDefine jobs and expectations, be sure procedures are being followed, pitch in to help when needed, seek suggestions and opportunities to improve, deal directly with problems.oDevelop skills for future.Lead, mentor, train, and delegate.Continue personal development as well.oBuild cohesive and motivated group.Be transparent, foster cooperation and respect, celebrate successes together and tackle challenges together.Manage Across the PlantoBuild constructive relationships with other staff managers the kind of relationships that allow managers to surface and tackle issues they may not see on their own.Be part of a Staff Team.oKeeps communication flowing across the plant.Read logs, talk to employees.Keep others informed of issues, successes, and areas of focus.Simplify concepts and speak plainly.Communicate priorities to help others hold realistic expectations.oBe the internal Voice of the Customer.Motivate employees to perform their best.oBe an active member of plant committees that need the QMs support or decision-making.Other Duties as AssignedWhat We Offer
